Six more weeks of winter may be on the way, but Round Here Records’ PLATINUM-hitmaker Canaan Smith is delivering an early dose of summertime vibes with his brand-new song, “Mason Jars & Fireflies” – available across all streaming platforms and digital retailers today (2/5).
The swampy singalong, which Smith produced himself and cowrote with Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley alongside Corey Crowder, sets the stage for the perfect summer night under the stars. Heading off the beaten path to a mountaintop in the middle of nowhere, the rowdy, toe-tapping tune calls out to the unforgettable memories made with friends when the sun begins to set on a hot day – and the “Mason Jars & Fireflies” finally come out to play.
"More than anything, writing and producing this song just inspired me so much on a musical level. As the sole producer on the track, I was able to really make it my own, and I had a blast doing so,” Smith explains. “There’s so much energy in this song, with the hillbilly stomp-clap beat, and I can’t get enough of it. To me, it just sounds like a memory – running wild as a kid in Virginia, any of those coming-of-age stories that you never forget. In my mind, this song is the soundtrack to those moments.”
“Mason Jars & Fireflies” is the latest introduction to Smith’s new musical chapter, as he continues to channel his Virginia roots and dig deeper into the signature sound that he refers to as “Canaan Country.” This release follows his standout 2020 releases – “Cabin In The Woods” – a “rustic track [that] transports listeners far away from the modern rat race” (Sounds Like Nashville) and “Colder Than You” – a “solidly country” (MusicRow) and “deliberately stripped down” (Rolling Stone) tune that highlights Smith’s “raw tone”(Billboard).
When it comes to new music in 2021, this is just the beginning for Smith, so be on the lookout for an exciting announcement in the coming weeks about what he’s been working on.
